Trigger warning: topics in this episode include rape, sexual violence, gender-based violence, and Black lynchings.

Kendall Francis’s account of being raped by an LSU football player, Jane Doe’s lawsuit against Cornell for failing to hold the Cornell rapists accountable, and Nolan Wells’ murder—and the ongoing fight for justice for him and his family—are all connected. White supremacist patriarchy seeks to normalize this violence and sweep it under the rug, but we refuse to be quiet. None of this is okay and none of this is normal.

In this episode, I speak with Nicole Snell of Girls Fight Back about the systemic roots of violence. Nicole’s prolific work in empowerment-based self-defense emphasizes that survivors are never at fault for the violence we experience.

Through her events, workshops, courses, and trainings, she teaches us to develop and wield our intuition, boundaries, and agency as sacred weapons to protect ourselves and our communities.

We discuss the need for systemic change, debunk rape myths, and explore ways to sharpen our intuition and strengthen our boundaries. We also examine how trauma responses like freeze and fawn affect our behavior, alongside the importance of bystander intervention and collective responsibility.
